Function allocation in radio-based train control systems – a comparison

In the current issue of the trade journal “Eisenbahntechnische Rundschau” (11/2020) an article by Dr.-Ing. habil. Lars Schnieder has been published.

In recent decades, Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) systems have become the de facto standard for both new construction projects and the signaling renewal of existing high-capacity urban rapid transit systems. As the functional scope of these train control systems is largely described by the standardization, the system solutions of the various manufacturers are therefore at least comparable in this respect. However, different system architectures can be identified in detail.

These are discussed comparatively in this article. In addition to the system architecture, further technical criteria for differentiating CBTC systems from the standardized European train control system ETCS are presented.

You can read the comparison of radio-based train control systems in the current issue of “Eisenbahntechnische Rundschau”, which we are happy to make available to you free of charge.
