Machine and operational safety in maintenance plants

An article by Dr.-Ing. Lars Schnieder and Sabrina Böttger was published in the March issue of the specialist magazine “DER EISENBAHNINGENIEUR”.

“In maintenance workshops for rail vehicles, extensive technical systems are operated to carry out maintenance activities. Their role as the operator of a comprehensive machine park results in further legal obligations for entrepreneurs. On the one hand, the machines must comply with the requirements of the Machinery Directive at the time they are commissioned in the workshops. On the other hand, operators must carry out risk assessments for the specific operational use of the machine in order to comply with their obligations under occupational health and safety law. This article provides specific recommendations for the legally compliant operation of machinery in rail vehicle maintenance workshops.”
